Puppetry in plays and musicals has usually been met with a negative reaction as they often look to kid-like and amateur for the big West End stages. The story is set at the outbreak of World War One where a young soldier’s beloved horse is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. The young soldier is soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. The story goes on to follow the soldier’s journey in finding his faithful horse and bringing him back home. The War Horse show is built around the horses who are brought to life by life-size puppets that move around beautifully to convey the real movement of the horses as well as the emotion of the piece. These life-sized puppets by the internationally renowned Handspring Puppet Company lead us on a gripping journey through history.

This touching story of War Horse has been adapted for the stage by acclaimed children’s writer Michael Morpurgo, from the original book by Nick Stafford, and the stage show has been a huge sell out success at the National Theatre.
